The House of Representatives voted Friday to adopt a resolution honoring the life and legacy of conservative activist Charlie Kirk, just over a week after he was shot and killed while speaking at a college campus in Utah, as reported by Fox News.
The resolution, introduced by Speaker Mike Johnson, R-La., passed with bipartisan support in a 310-58 vote. Ninety-five Democrats joined Republicans in voting for the measure, while 58 Democrats opposed it. Another 22 Democrats did not vote, and 38 chose to vote “present.”
PHUQUING POS @AOC voted “no” on the bill honoring Charlie Kirk. This wouldnt have cost the dems a dime. What it DID cost them was their reputation. They are so loathsome, they can’t even honor a man of God #DemocratScum https://t.co/iwQvynOyIm

House Democratic leadership — Minority Leader Hakeem Jeffries, D-N.Y., Whip Katherine Clark, D-Mass., and Caucus Chairman Pete Aguilar, D-Calif. — all voted in favor of the resolution.
While party leaders did not issue a formal directive to their caucus, sources familiar with internal discussions confirmed they communicated their support.
The resolution praised Kirk, the founder of Turning Point USA, as “one of the most prominent voices in America, engaging in respectful, civil discourse across college campuses, media platforms and national forums, always seeking to elevate truth, foster understanding and strengthen the Republic.”
It also highlighted Kirk’s Christian faith and his “steadfast dedication to the Constitution, civil discourse, and biblical truth” that “inspired a generation to cherish and defend the blessings of liberty.”
The resolution described Kirk’s assassination as “a sobering reminder of the growing threat posed by political extremism and hatred in our society” and called on Americans “to reject political violence, recommit to respectful debate, uphold American values, and respect one another as fellow Americans.”
Despite widespread condemnation of the killing, the vote revealed sharp divisions among Democrats.

Some lawmakers broke with leadership by voting against the resolution, while others avoided taking a firm position by voting “present.”
Rep. Ilhan Omar, D-Minn., drew criticism from Republicans after she gave an interview to Zeteo News and reposted a video on social media criticizing Kirk’s allies in the aftermath of his death.
In response, Rep. Nancy Mace, R-S.C., attempted to advance a resolution to censure Omar. That effort failed when four Republicans voted against it, citing concerns about First Amendment protections.
The debate over the resolution underscored the broader partisan divisions in Congress as members continue to react to Kirk’s death.
