Candace Owens’ British father-in-law, Lord Michael Farmer, came forward this week to defend his family against an onslaught of criticism over anti-Semitic comments made by his son’s wife. Lord Farmer, a member of the House of Lords and former treasurer of the Conservative Party, took to X to reaffirm his commitment to the state of Israel and to his Jewish friends.
“In view of public comments from a high-profile member of my family, I want to put my own views on antisemitism and Israel’s current military campaign in Gaza on public record,” Farmer wrote.
“As a teenager, growing up in the wake of WW2, I became very aware of the cruelty meted out, before and during that conflict, against Jewish people – because they were Jewish. I found it impossible to comprehend how humans could, intentionally, be as cruel as possible to others,” he continued.
Farmer added that as a young man, he worked with many Jewish people in London and that his boss, during one of his first jobs, had first come to the United Kingdom on a Kindertransport.
“I often experienced kindness and thoughtfulness from Jewish friends as well, at a time when I had few close relationships,” he said.
While Farmer didn’t directly address the anti-Semitic comments made by his daughter-in-law during the tweets, he made it clear that he firmly opposes anti-Semitism in any form and that he supports Israel’s right to defend itself against Hamas terrorists.
Candace Owens married into the Farmer family in 2019. Former Turning Point UK chairman George Farmer married the American commentator on August 31, 2019. Owens’ husband is a donor to the British Conservative Party, having reportedly donated “significant amounts” to the party over the years, including a £5,000 donation to former Member of Parliament Ben Bradley.
Owens’ Fall From Grace
After parting ways with conservative media outlet Daily Wire in 2024, Candace Owens has made a series of increasingly anti-Semitic comments on her social media and independent online show.
Among those comments was a claim that Soviet leader Joseph Stalin was Jewish. Owens also argued that Jews defending Israel’s war against Hamas in Gaza was equivalent to Black Americans defending George Floyd, arguing that their loyalty is based on trivial matters relating to identity.
Over the weekend, Owens also offered an alternate theory about the formation of the state of Israel, repeating the anti-Semitic “blood libel” myth that wrongly accuses Jews of kidnapping and murdering Christian children for ritual purposes during Passover.
