The Air Force Academy football team will carry the future of American airpower onto the gridiron this October with a special uniform inspired by the B-21 Raider.
The Falcons will debut the striking design against Navy, giving the annual service academy clash an unmistakable stealth bomber edge.
The team will wear the 2026 edition of its Air Power Legacy Series uniform on Oct. 3 at the Air Force Academy stadium.
The series honors aircraft, missions, and personnel that have shaped American airpower while connecting cadets with the service they are preparing to lead.
This edition focuses on the B-21 Raider, the advanced stealth bomber being developed by Northrop Grumman.
The aircraft is designed to carry both conventional and nuclear munitions, making it a central piece of future American power projection and strategic deterrence.
The uniform incorporates visual references to the Raider across nearly every major component.
Silver images of the bomber appear throughout the design, while the helmet prominently carries the designation “B-21” for fans in the stadium and viewers watching from home.
The overall color scheme reflects the aircraft’s sleek and secretive appearance without turning the uniform into a costume.
It is a sharp tribute to a serious weapons platform, which is fitting for a rivalry game featuring cadets who could one day support or command missions involving aircraft like the Raider.
Special backplates replace traditional player names with mission focused phrases such as “power projection” and “strategic deterrence.”
Those words are not empty marketing slogans, since they describe the core responsibilities the B-21 is expected to perform as part of America’s long range strike force.
The shoulder patches deepen the connection between the uniform and the organizations responsible for building, testing, and fielding the bomber.
Players will wear representations associated with Air Force Global Strike Command, the 412th Test Wing at Edwards Air Force Base, or Air Force Materiel Command.
Air Force Global Strike Command oversees the nation’s bomber and land based missile forces, placing it at the heart of the nuclear deterrence mission.
Air Force Materiel Command, meanwhile, plays a major role in developing, acquiring, testing, and sustaining the systems airmen need to fight.
The 412th Test Wing manages B-21 development activity at Edwards Air Force Base in California.
Its inclusion recognizes the airmen, engineers, maintainers, and test professionals doing the demanding work required to move an advanced aircraft from development toward operational service.
One of the uniform’s most noticeable details is a red towel tucked into the player’s side.
It reads “remove before flight,” echoing the familiar red safety ribbons attached to aircraft components and equipment while a plane is on the ground.
Those ribbons warn ground crews and aircrews that protective covers, pins, or other safety devices must be removed before an aircraft takes off.
Bringing that detail onto the football field gives the uniform an authentic aviation touch that should be instantly recognizable to service members and military aviation enthusiasts.
“There’s something powerful about seeing the future of American airpower represented on the uniforms of cadets who are themselves the future of our Air Force,” Tom Jones, Northrop Grumman Aeronautics Systems corporate vice president and president, said in a company release.
Jones captured the larger meaning behind the design because the uniform links a next generation bomber with the next generation of Air Force officers.
