Republicans are More Trustworthy: Democrat Rep. Seth Moulton Criticizes His Own Party for Banning Debate on Critical Issues
The Democratic Party’s internal strife continued to escalate as concerned party members highlighted issues that led to Kamala Harris’s humiliating defeat at the ballot by the Left’s arch nemesis, former President Donald Trump.
Rep. Seth Moulton, (D-MA-6), criticized the Blue Party for censoring debate on contentious issues such as transgender women’s participation in girls’ sports, the economy, and border security. The Congressman accused his party of ignoring issues that affect ordinary voters to prioritize “political correctness.”
“Democrats spend way too much time trying not to offend anyone rather than being brutally honest about the challenges many Americans face.
“I have two little girls. I don’t want them getting run over on a playing field by a male or formerly male athlete, but as a Democrat, I’m supposed to be afraid to say that,” the Congressman told the New York Times.
A 2024 Siena College poll found that nearly two-thirds (66%) of New York voters want athletes only to compete with “the same sex that they were assigned at birth.”
“We all know that New York is a liberal state so this tells you that this should not be a liberal, conservative or Democrat and Republican issue,” said state Sen. George Borrelo, R-Sunset Bay.
Harris won the multicultural Liberal New York City by 68%-30%, 16% less than Biden in 2020, highlighting the changing voting patterns in a traditionally deep-blue region.
Despite pointing out the obvious, Moulton’s interview with the NYT caused a firestorm, which likely led to the resignation of his campaign manager, Matt Chilliak, and calls for his resignation.
“Millions of Americans today showed that they hate immigrants and transgender people more than they fear fascism,” the departing campaign manager posted on X shortly after Trump’s victory.
Similarly, Rep. Manny Cruz (D-MA-7) branded Moulton a traitor and demanded his resignation.
“Now, on a political whim, our Congressman has betrayed the words he signed onto just last year by scapegoating transgender youth in sports for the failures of the national Democratic Party and leaders to win the presidential election.”
Nonetheless, the Congressman refused to apologize and defended his remarks, stating that individuals with “unfair physical advantages” from “being born male” should be restricted from competing against biological girls.
“I stand firmly in my belief for the need for competitive women’s sports to put limits on the participation of those with the unfair physical advantages that come with being born male,” Moulton told Fox News Digital.
He also asserted his support for the “civil rights of all Americans,” including transgender individuals, but noted that the two ideas were not mutually exclusive.
“I will fight, as I always have, for the rights and safety of all citizens. These two ideas are not mutually exclusive, and we can even disagree on them,” Moulton said.
“I stand by my position even though I may not have used exactly the right words.”
He also lashed out at fellow Democrats who were fixated on attacking fellow party members who refused to blindly stick to the party’s talking points.
“On the other hand, some people like you mentioned are just more interested in shaming fellow Democrats, shaming the majority of voters when they simply don‘t meet the ideological purity test.”
Moulton went on to explain how the Democratic elite tried to convince Americans that defunding the police was an excellent idea, that no problem existed at the southern border, and that inflation was transient.
“And the same people who attacked me when I said that Biden should step aside because he was going to lose this election.”
Highlighting that “Democrats are banning debate” and “Republicans have managed to become more trustworthy,” he warned that the GOP would sweep the floor in January as it did during the presidential election unless his party agrees to have the “debate now and come up with a winning strategy.”
Despite the backlash from the Democratic elite, Moulton said most messages he received from ordinary Americans were supportive.
“This is our problem. We tried to cancel people rather than actually having debates about issues that Americans care about. And this is bigger than trans issues. This is about the economy.”
That all being said, don’t forget he’s only saying this because his side is losing.
