‘Utterly Incompetent’ LA Mayor Karen Bass Snobs Journalist over Raging Blaze Decimating the City While She Toured Africa
Los Angeles Mayor Karen Bass (D) was stunned when a Sky News journalist confronted her about the city’s underwhelming response to the worst wildfires in LA’s history, which have decimated numerous homes.
Bass had traveled to Ghana in West Africa as the city struggled to contain the rapidly spreading wildfire. She was part of the delegation representing Joe Biden during the inauguration of the African country’s president. While in Ghana, she was warned of “an expected destructive and potentially life-threatening windstorm,” but remained there for days as fires began to ravage her city.
Nonetheless, the disgraced mayor remained silent for nearly two minutes while Sky News’ David Blevins fired a barrage of questions. She finally walked off without responding to a single query.
“Madam mayor, have you absolutely nothing to say to the citizens today who are dealing with this disaster?” Blevins fired the first salvo.
“Do you owe citizens an apology for being absent while their homes were burning?”
“Do you regret cutting the fire department budget by millions of dollars, madam mayor?”
The city of Los Angeles had slashed the Los Angeles Fire Department’s (LAFD) budget by $17 million from $837,191,237 to $819,637,423 for the fiscal year 2024-2025. Bass had proposed even higher budget cuts of $23 million for the fire department, which were later dropped.
During the same period, it allocated $1.3 billion for the homeless population, which went largely unspent, highlighting the lack of planning and failure to set the right priorities.
Amid budget cuts, LAFD grapples with staff shortages, undermining its ability to respond to the wildfires.
However, Bass refused to respond to those remarks. Nonetheless, the Sky News journalist continued to press the snobbish mayor to respond to the questions in the minds of many LA residents before taking a different angle of questioning.
“Have you nothing to say today?” Blevins asked.
“Have you absolutely nothing to say to the citizens today?”
“Elon Musk says that you’re utterly incompetent. Are you considering your position?”
The government spending czar had blamed the mayor and other Democrats for the wildfires that were sweeping across the state.
President Trump also blamed the state’s regulations for limiting the amount of water sent to the southern Californian city to protect a “worthless fish called a smelt by giving it less water,” which failed spectacularly while putting the lives of residents at risk.
“I will demand that this incompetent governor allow beautiful, clean, fresh water to FLOW INTO CALIFORNIA! He is the blame for this,” Trump posted on Truth Social.
“Madam mayor, have you absolutely nothing to say to the citizens today who are dealing with this disaster? No apology for them?”
“Do you think you should have been visiting Ghana while this was unfolding back home?”
Mayor Bass’ office has as yet not responded to requests from various news organizations for comment on the incident.
In a separate press conference, Bass said she was in contact with city, county, state, and federal fire officials and promised to rebuild better than before.
The mayor added that she took the fastest route back home on a military plane and was on the phone throughout the journey.
She also claimed that California Governor Gavin Newsom and President Joe Biden had promised her support.
Meanwhile, the Palisades and Eaton wildfires have destroyed over 1,000 homes, burned over 6,000 acres of land, and continues to spread. At least two people have also lost their lives in the raging blaze sweeping across The City of Angels.
