Alleged JD Vance Home Vandal Linked to Wealthy Democratic Donor Family

Police in Cincinnati arrested a 26-year-old man early Monday in connection with the vandalism of Vice President J.D. Vance’s Ohio residence, charging him with multiple offenses after authorities say he attempted to break into the property around midnight, as reported by The New York Post.

According to police, William DeFoor was taken into custody after allegedly shattering four windows at Vance’s home in Cincinnati.

The incident occurred while the vice president and his family were not in Ohio. The Vances moved into the vice president’s official residence in Washington, D.C., following the inauguration.

Cincinnati police said DeFoor was armed with a hammer at the time of the alleged incident and was attempting to gain entry into the residence.

No injuries were reported. Law enforcement officials confirmed that DeFoor was booked into the Hamilton County jail and is facing several charges related to the incident.

Court and jail records list the charges as obstructing official business, criminal damaging or endangering, criminal trespass, and vandalism. DeFoor’s initial court appearance is scheduled for Tuesday.

Public records and federal campaign finance filings indicate that DeFoor is the son of a well-known Cincinnati physician with a long history of political donations to Democratic candidates and causes.

DeFoor’s father, also named William DeFoor, is a Harvard University graduate and a pediatric urologist who has practiced in Cincinnati for decades. He also serves as a professor at the University of Cincinnati College of Medicine.

Property records show that the DeFoor family resides in a home valued at approximately $1.3 million in Cincinnati’s Hyde Park neighborhood.

Federal Election Commission filings indicate that the elder DeFoor donated thousands of dollars to former Vice President Kamala Harris’s 2024 presidential campaign and contributed more than $5,000 combined to the campaigns of former President Joe Biden and Harris during the 2020 and 2024 election cycles.

Records also show previous donations to a political action committee representing urologists.

Social media posts attributed to the elder DeFoor indicate support for a federal assault weapons ban following the 2022 Uvalde Elementary School shooting in Texas.

Records show that the younger DeFoor graduated from Summit Country Day School in 2018, where he was recognized as a candidate for the U.S. Presidential Scholars Program.

He later attended the University of Cincinnati’s College-Conservatory of Music for approximately two years before leaving in 2020.

Earlier this year, DeFoor stated on social media that he was enrolled at Cincinnati State Technical and Community College.

Court documents indicate that DeFoor has a prior criminal history involving vandalism. In 2024, he was sentenced on two counts of vandalism related to damage at a local interior design business.

Instead of a traditional conviction, a judge ordered DeFoor to complete two years of mandatory mental health treatment, which remains ongoing, according to records obtained by Cincinnati.com.

In April 2023, DeFoor was charged with trespassing at UC Health psychiatric and emergency services facilities. He was initially held on a $10,000 bond, but a judge later ruled that he was not mentally competent to stand trial.

Those charges were dismissed in a Nov. 8 filing that year.

Recent online activity suggests DeFoor had been using the name “Julia DeFoor” in recent weeks. Law enforcement records list his name as William and his gender as male.

The investigation into the vandalism of the vice president’s residence remains ongoing.
