Anchor Babies Account for a Shocking Percentage of K-12 Students

Birthright citizenship, enabled by activist judges, is threatening to alter the fabric of the nation. A new study by the Kaiser Family Foundation found that nearly a fifth (17%) of school-going children, or nine million kids, are anchor babies, whose parents are illegal immigrants or temporary residents. However, only 80% of children attend traditional schools, according to EdChoice, pushing the number even higher.

Similarly, ChildStats.gov estimates that there are about 50 million school-going children, of whom 80% or 40 million attended public schools. With nine million of the 40 million public school-attending students being anchor babies, the percentage of children with illegal alien parents rises to about 22.5% or nearly a quarter. In addition, this figure does not account for the small number of children born to illegal immigrants who do not attend schools or those enrolled in private schools.

With each school-going child spending about $16,280 per year in education, according to 2020 figures, the country spends about $145.6 billion annually educating children born to illegal immigrants. Some inefficient blue states, such as New York, spend as much as $35,012 per student annually, making overall spending even higher. Others, such as California, spend about $19,000, while Illinois spends about $24,000 per public school-attending student per year.

Extended for seven years, which is half of the anchor baby’s K-12 education lifetime, the figure far exceeds $1 trillion. If we spent that amount on improving educational outcomes for American children, literacy rates would drastically improve across the country.

Additionally, many Democrats fighting Trump’s attempts to end birthright citizenship struggle with underfunded schools, and their states record some of the worst literacy rates across the country. Nonetheless, they would rather complain about “systemic racism” being responsible for poor literacy rates in their inner cities and demand affirmative action in college admissions, while spending billions to educate children born to people who should not be in the country in the first place.

Other children who could easily learn under prevailing conditions are slowed down by the complex learning environment that sometimes requires translators to accommodate foreign, non-English speaking children.

Additionally, every cent spent on children who should not be in the country undermines our overall literacy rates and disproportionately affects underserved communities. However, their Democratic politicians would rather fight for illegal aliens than for the Americans who elected them. Yet, Trump remains the existential threat facing America that must be opposed at all costs.

Meanwhile, on January 20, 2025, President Trump signed the “Protecting the Meaning and Value of American Citizenship” executive order to deny default citizenship to children born to non-American parents or temporary residents. However, it was countered with numerous lawsuits, with liberal judges issuing nationwide injunctions. If implemented, the orders could affect over 150,000 anchor babies, with more prevented from taking advantage of American taxpayers in the future.

Nonetheless, the U.S. Court of Appeals for the 9th Circuit started hearing statements regarding the order. Similarly, the Supreme Court has welcomed listening to various challenges filed against the Trump administration in the blue states of Maryland, Washington, and New Jersey.

  1. This number will surely double in the next five to ten years as the children born to the illegals Biden let in become of school age.
