California Governor Gavin Newsom will be forced to borrow $3.44 billion to fund his universal healthcare program for illegal aliens. Gov. Newsom had previously boasted of a budget reconciliation measure that allowed the state to offer free healthcare for illegal immigrants. He also reported that the Golden State was the first to offer universal healthcare for all residents, including illegal immigrants.
“With these new investments, California will become the first state to achieve universal access to health care coverage,” he said.
“We’re investing California’s historic surplus to accomplish transformative changes we’ve long dreamed of — including this historic Medi-Cal expansion to ensure thousands of older undocumented Californians, many of whom have been serving on the front lines of the pandemic, can access critical health care services,” he added.
The state started offering taxpayer-funded healthcare for illegal aliens in January 2024. In the same year, the state approved a new measure to cover healthcare needs for elderly illegal immigrants above 50 years. Gov. Newsom called the measure “a major milestone in the state’s progress toward universal health coverage.” In 2019, the Golden State also started offering medical benefits for undocumented individuals up to 26 years of age.
Meanwhile, California has the largest illegal immigrant population in the country exceeding three million, including over 235,000 who are over 50 years old and are now eligible for state-funded healthcare for elderly undocumented individuals. Previously, the state estimated that the program would cost about $3 billion. It now turns out that providing free healthcare for illegal immigrants was more expensive than anticipated and the state governor must now borrow $3.44 billion more to fund Medi-Cal, a Medicaid-style health coverage plan, for undocumented individuals.
To ensure their spending choices remain unchallenged, Democrats removed Republican State Assemblyman Carl DeMaio from two budget committees for calling into question the state’s priorities. Nonetheless, Gov. Newsom believes Democrats are doing an excellent job in running California. However, Democrats only excel at running California into the ground, as demonstrated by the hundreds of thousands of Californians leaving the state every year for conservative states like Texas and Florida.
Despite losing more Americans to net domestic migration, the state’s population continues to grow, as more illegal immigrants move in to take advantage of the state government’s incentives such as free healthcare. Meanwhile, the state continues to grapple with widespread homelessness affecting legal residents. Meanwhile, at least 11 Blue states and Washington D.C. continue to provide free healthcare for illegal immigrants at the expense of their legal residents. American taxpayers spend about $18.5 billion per year on free healthcare for illegal immigrants.
California is hardly the only state grappling with increasing costs of covering free healthcare for illegal immigrants. With more than half of the illegal immigrants in the country uninsured, enrolment in free healthcare programs is expected to double in 2025. At least seven states offering free coverage anticipate expanding their programs to accommodate more illegal immigrants.
How many legal Californians DON’t have healthcare, you goofball, Newsom?
