Joe Biden’s inner circle had hatched a devious plan to run the country if the cognitively impaired illegitimate president was re-elected, according to Alex Thompson and Jake Tapper’s grift “Original Sin: President Biden’s Decline, Its Cover-up, and His Disastrous Choice to Run Again.”
The authors disclosed that Biden’s White House aides planned to handle the daily running of the country while occasionally presenting Biden to the public as “proof of life.” The damning revelation was made when Thompson appeared on Fox News.
“He just had to win, and then he could disappear for four years. He’d only have to show proof of life every once in a while. His aides could pick up the slack,” Fox News Sunday host Shannon Bream quoted the book.
Thompson explained how the aide justified the appalling plan by claiming that when voters elect a president, they also vote for his close aides. However, aides are not supposed to be running the country instead of the president. They are only supposed to support the president and ensure they are functioning properly by coordinating their activities, not replacing them.
“Well, this person went on to say that when you’re voting for a president, you’re voting for the aides around him,” he said.
He also noted that the White House aides were unelected individuals and not even Senate-confirmed. However, it would be unlikely that they would carry the insidious and possibly treasonous plan alone without the cover of some Senate Democrats and the media, which also helped cover Biden’s decline.
“But these aides were not even Senate-confirmed aides. These are White House aides. These were unelected people,” Thompson continued.
However, the irony was not lost on the book’s co-author, who has recently called Trump’s mental acuity into question. He noted that people who branded Trump a threat to democracy were willing to allow unelected shadowy figures to run the country without the voters’ mandate.
“And one of the things that really I think comes out in our reporting here is that if you believe — and I think a lot of these people do sincerely believe that Donald Trump was and is an existential threat to democracy — you can rationalize anything, including sometimes doing undemocratic things, which I think is what this person is talking about.”
Meanwhile, this is unlikely the first time the White House aides had planned to, or did run the country, under Biden’s deteriorating mental acuity. The recently uncovered Autopen scandal suggests that the shadowy figures were accustomed to running the country longer than most Americans knew.
Tapper has admitted that Biden’s decline cover-up was worse than Watergate.
Additionally, the Wall Street Journal reported in January 2025 that Biden’s senior advisers were effectively running affairs under his diminished presidency.
Similarly, occasionally presenting Biden to the public as a sign of normalcy was also hardly a new idea. The WSJ had claimed that Biden was protected by a powerful inner circle and rarely met even Democratic lawmakers, and his meetings were short, focused, and attended by hawk-eyed aides.
Ironically, Tapper had trashed those claims by calling the Wall Street Journal claims “false,” only to co-author a book and confirm the same — a perfect grift.
The book also previously disclosed how cabinet meetings were scripted and questions were predefined, making them feel fake and rehearsed. Seemingly, the aides made all the decisions and fed Biden with all the “acceptable” answers.
As planned, his role was likely to put on a convincing front to compel curious Americans into believing that he was still in charge, while someone else was running the show behind the scenes.
