The House of Representatives passed legislation on Thursday to officially rename the Gulf of Mexico to the “Gulf of America,” a move originally initiated by President Donald Trump through executive order, as reported by Fox News.
The vote passed narrowly, 211–206, with no Democratic support and one Republican, Rep. Don Bacon of Nebraska, voting against the bill.

The bill was introduced by Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene, R-Ga., a close ally of President Trump, and formally seeks to codify the name change ordered by Trump. The legislation would make the renaming permanent, subject to Senate approval.
“This is such an important thing to do for the American people,” Greene said during debate on the House floor.
“The American people deserve pride in their country, and they deserve pride in the waters that we own, that we protect with our military and our Coast Guard and all of the businesses that prosper along these waters.”
Democrats criticized the bill as a misuse of time and resources.
“Republicans think this juvenile legislation is the best use of this House’s time. This is the only work we’re doing today, folks,” Rep. Steny Hoyer, D-Md., said in his remarks.
“What a sick joke this is. Republicans worry about 400-year-old words on a map. I worry about families and every community in America that’s struggling to get by.”
Supporters of the measure within the GOP argued the change would encourage tourism and promote a renewed sense of national pride, especially along the southern coast.
However, internal disagreements also surfaced. Some Republican lawmakers expressed concern behind closed doors about prioritizing symbolic legislation over advancing broader elements of Trump’s policy platform.
“I’ve heard criticisms from all corners of the conference — conservatives to pragmatic ones,” Rep. Bacon told Fox News Digital earlier this week. “It seems sophomoric. The United States is bigger and better than this.”
One GOP lawmaker anonymously told Fox News Digital, “125 other [executive orders], this is the one we pick.”
Greene responded directly to the criticism, posting on X, “Some of my Republican colleagues don’t want to vote for my Gulf of America Act, which is one of President Trump’s favorite executive orders. They say they would rather vote on ‘more serious EOs.’ Boys, are you ready to vote to criminalize sex changes on kids?? Because I have that bill on that EO too.”
The bill now advances to the Senate, where it will require 60 votes to proceed — meaning several Democratic senators would need to support the measure for it to reach the president’s desk.

Trump’s sophomoric need to change the name of the Gulf of Mexico is laughable. Apparently that is the best he and his maga republicans can achieve. Prices are rising on everything and their need is to concentrate on the Gulf of Mexico as if that will improve the lives of the people of the US. And a note to MTG; the only one who is unAmerican is the woman who speaks disgustingly ill mannered, displaying her ignorance and lack of class and intelligence.
