Illegal Alien Charged With Attempted Murder After Allegedly Chasing Trump’s Attorney with a Knife

An illegal immigrant with a criminal record was arrested after allegedly chasing Trump-appointed US Attorney for the Northern District of New York John Sarcone with a knife outside a hotel in Albany.

In 2017, Albany became a sanctuary city for illegal immigrants after Mayor Kathy Sheehan signed an executive order to protect undocumented foreign nationals who entered the country illegally.

According to CCTV footage, Saul Morales-Garcia, 40, an El Salvadorian illegal alien with numerous prior charges, pulled a knife and lunged at Sarcone, forcing him to flee into the hotel lobby before calling Albany County Sheriff Craig Apple.

When Sarcone went outside to check if the attacker had fled the scene, he allegedly made a “slit throat” gesture, suggesting he intended to kill the Trump attorney.

Sarcone worked as Trump’s attorney in 2016 and 2024. He also played a leading role in charging an Iraqi-born illegal immigrant, Akeel Abdul Jamiel, for illegally voting in U.S. elections.

The attacker faces numerous charges, including second-degree attempted murder, third-degree criminal possession of a weapon, and second-degree menacing. He was arraigned in Albany City Criminal Court and has pleaded not guilty to the charges.

He is currently held without bail, and Mayor Sheehan has suggested she could detain him on behalf of the federal government “if a warrant is issued.” Federal agents were present during his arraignment, likely to arrest him if he was released.

Meanwhile, Morales-Garcia has multiple charges in Georgia, Virginia, Pennsylvania, and federal court. Some of the charges include allegedly making physical threats, likely to cause injuries. He was also previously deported and illegally reentered the country, which is a federal felony. He also has a felony conviction in El Salvador.

“In [Governor] Kathy Hochul’s New York, nobody is safe, not even President Trump’s U.S. Attorney for the Northern District of NY John A. Sarcone III, who was ‘confronted and chased’ by an illegal alien armed with a knife in Albany last night, the Times Union reported,” tweeted Rep. Elise Stefanik (R-NY).

“Three separate times, Hochul signed executive orders to protect violent illegal aliens from deportation.

Kathy Hochul puts illegals first and New Yorkers last. We desperately need a governor who puts New Yorkers first and restores law and order to our streets.”

According to the New York Post, over 3,200 illegal immigrants housed in 48 taxpayer-funded shelters have been arrested 4,884 times in less than two years for various crimes, including assault, robbery, and murder.

“This is Kathy Hochul’s dangerous sanctuary state New York that puts illegals first, New Yorkers last,” X’ed Stefanik.

On December 22, 2024, an illegal alien from Guatemala, Sebastian Zapeta‑Calil, allegedly burned a woman to death in Gov. Hochul’s NYC subway, which she claimed had become safer.

Governor Hochul also recently boasted spending $50 million to help illegal immigrants fight the legal system to continue living in the country illegally.

According to an Urban Institute report, the state also spent $2.1 billion to help 130,000 illegal aliens work without authorization and receive unemployment compensation.
