Texas Democrat Jasmine Crockett fervently defended the federal courts during the Republican-led House Judiciary Committee hearing on “Judicial Overreach & Constitutional Limits On The Federal Courts.” However, she forgot a crucial detail regarding her past relationship with the Supreme Court, which later exposed her as the opportunist that she and other Democrats are.
“The problem that we have right now is that if we continue down this road, that we will not have a rule of law,” Crockett ranted. “Because we have people that are currently serving, and they’re saying things like, ‘Ignore the judge’s order.'”
“What it means to have law and order in this country is that you follow the order and you go through the appeals process,” she continued. “Even if you dislike what the judge did.”
Crockett seems to have developed a soft spot for the federal courts after activist judges adopted a scorched-earth approach against Trump, handing down restraining orders and injunctions against his executive actions like candy
However, Rep. Darrell Issa (R-CA) was quick to note her inconsistency and called her out for previously viciously attacking the federal court system that she now pretends to defend.
“And I’m going to note that when Miss Ocasio-Cortez, or AOC as we know her, filed articles of impeachment on Justice (Clarence) Thomas and (Samuel) Alito, Miss Crockett was one of the co-sponsors along with Mr. (Steve) Cohen, both members of this committee,” Issa said.
AOC even went a step further to question the legitimacy of the Supreme Court, which Crockett did not seem to mind at the time. The New York Democrat even called on “Congress to contain the threat this poses to our democracy” by the Supreme Court.
“Congress has a legal, moral, and democratic obligation to impeach,” AOC added.
Crockett was among 19 Democrats, including ultra-radical left Squad members Reps. Rashida Tlaib (D-MI) and Ilhan Omar (D-MN), who co-sponsored AOC’s articles of impeachment. Crockett had just been elected to the House and had barely learned the ins and outs of Washington but was already attacking the Supreme Court.
“It does seem interesting that when the shoe is on the other foot, everyone is self-righteous, and I think this is a good example,” Issa added.
Crockett is hardly the only Democrat who used to attack the federal court system but is now singing its praises. In 2022, New York Democratic Rep. Hakeem Jeffries said the Supreme Court has “zero legitimacy,” adding that “Ghosts of the Confederacy are alive and well” after it allowed Alabama to implement a redistricting plan that did not favor the Democrats. Similarly, former California Democratic Representative Barbara Lee compared the highest court on the land to “Jim Crow 2.0.”
“Nearly a third of Alabama’s population is Black, and yet the Supreme Court just upheld a map that only gives them 1 out of 7 congressional seats. This is Jim Crow 2.0,” Lee tweeted.
Current and former Democratic Senators Sheldon Whitehouse (D-R.I.), Mazie Hirono (D-Hawaii), Richard Blumenthal (D-Conn.), Richard Durbin (D-Ill.) and Kirsten Gillibrand (D-N.Y.) also filed an amicus brief threatening SCOTUS with public-backed reforms after it failed to support the gun transport ban in the New York State Rifle & Pistol Association v. City of New York case. Democratic presidential candidates Pete Buttigieg and Rep. Beto O’Rourke even proposed restructuring the Supreme Court to fit their agenda.
