Former President Barack Obama has taken to TikTok to encourage voter registration as part of a broader effort to engage younger voters ahead of the 2024 election. On National Voter Registration Day, Obama partnered with popular TikTok creators, whose combined reach exceeds 30 million users across social media. The initiative is aimed at driving voters to IWillVote.com, a website where eligible voters can register.

The effort is part of Obama’s continued push to mobilize young voters and strengthen the Democratic Party’s outreach. As part of the campaign, he held meetings with content creators in Washington, D.C., and Chicago during the Democratic National Convention. The creators released videos with Obama discussing the stakes of the election and the importance of voter registration, helping generate thousands of visits to the registration website.

In addition to engaging with influencers, Obama and his wife, Michelle, endorsed Vice President Kamala Harris after President Joe Biden withdrew from the race in July. Both Obamas delivered powerful speeches during the Democratic convention in Chicago.

The push comes less than 50 days before the 2024 election, with a focus on younger generations, particularly Generation Z voters. Vice President Harris’s campaign has also launched initiatives targeting young voters, especially in swing states, to encourage them to register to vote. Events are being planned on college campuses to further engage with potential voters on issues they care about.

Obama’s use of TikTok highlights the Democratic Party’s evolving strategy to reach younger audiences, despite the platform’s contentious status in the U.S. political landscape.
