Put it ALL Out There: GOP’s Marjorie Taylor Greene Threatens Republicans Over Matt Gaetz’s Ethics Report

Rep. Marjorie Taylor Greene (R-GA) has lashed out at fellow Republican lawmakers after threatening to publish an ethics report about Rep. Matt Gaetz.

Trump appointed Rep. Gaetz as his incoming Attorney General, drawing the wrath of Democrats who went on a smear campaign on the Republican lawmaker.

On Wednesday, the House Ethics Committee decided against releasing the Gaetz report, with the chairman of the committee, Rep. Michael Guest, signaling that the panel may not release a report on the former congressman because it isn’t finished or reviewed.

Meanwhile, while the contents of the report are up to anybody’s guess, Rep. Gaetz has denied claims of sexual involvement with a 17-year-old girl, illicit drug use, and receiving improper gifts.

In 2020, federal investigators arrested Gaetz’s friend Joel Greenberg who pleaded guilty to six charges and cooperated with the Department of Justice to investigate the Florida Congressman. As yet, nothing has come out of the investigation. Among the allegations that Gaetz faced include sex trafficking, which concluded without the Department of Justice filing any charges.

Meanwhile, responding to the potential publication of the report, Rep. Greene has criticized her Republican counterparts for their apparent double standards on the issue.

“For my Republican colleagues in the House and Senate, if we are going to release ethics reports and rip apart our own that Trump has appointed, then put it ALL out there for the American people to see,” Rep. Green X’ed. “Yes.. all the ethics reports and claims including the one I filed.”

The vocal Republican and stalwart Trump supporter also accused some of her Republican colleagues of sexual harassment and assault and paying off victims with taxpayers’ money. She also dared them to make public “Jeffrey Epstein files, tapes, recordings, witness interviews,” and more.

“I’ll make sure we do.”

Regardless of the report’s contents, Democrats could (likely intentionally) misinterpret it or misrepresent it to push their anti-Gaetz agenda through disingenuous disinformation.

Similarly, releasing the document so close to his confirmation hearing could create a window for his opponents to create a false narrative before the confirmation panelists have enough time to digest its contents. However, Trump has floated recess appointments to get around this.

Nonetheless, Trump has described Gaetz as a “Champion for the Constitution and the Rule of Law.” In 2023, he led an aggressive and successful campaign to ouster former House Speaker Republican Kevin McCarthy, who Trump did not hold in high regard.
