Rand Paul Criticizes Some Parts of Trump Deportation Plan, Offers Suggestions

Sen. Rand Paul voiced opposition to a crucial aspect of Donald Trump’s political agenda, warning it would be a “huge mistake” to use the military to help deport the tens of millions of illegal aliens.

Paul’s remarks came during an interview on Newsmax where he urged the incoming president to first focus on illegals who have “committed crimes.”

“I think what I would do if I were in charge of the immigration situation would be to first to go after those who have committed crimes,” Paul said.

“You know, the big news right before the election was that there were 15,000 people in our country who have committed murder, there are about 13,000 that have committed sex crimes, violent sex crimes.”

“That’s 28,000 people. Why don’t we start with that 28,000? Paul asked.

“I’m not in favor of sending the army in uniforms into our cities to collect people. I think it’s a terrible image,” he added.

“And that’s not what we use our military for, we never have. And it’s actually been illegal for over 100 years to bring the army into our cities.”

“Army and our military are trained to shoot the enemy. They’re not trained to get a warrant to do what they’re doing.

“The police have a difficult job, but the people removing people from our country need to be a police enforcement domestic agency, not the military,” Paul continued.

“So while I’m all for ‘Remain in Mexico,’ I will not support an emergency to put the army into our cities. I think that’s a huge mistake.

“I’m not for really most presidential emergencies because they smack of martial rule. They smack of of no congressional approval.”

“They smack of no checks and balances. So, look, I’m supportive of President Trump. I’m supportive of removing people illegally here, particularly people who have committed crimes.

“But I’m not for the Army marching up and down our streets. I think it’s a terrible image to send the world. It’s a terrible image for us as citizens. And so I hope he will think twice about trying to use an emergency edict to have the army patrolling our country.”

  1. I used to like Rand Paul but of late he’s become as goofy as most democrats. First, he didn’t come out in support of Trump but now wants to give his advice. No thanks Rand, relegate yourself to the back of the room where you belong. As noted in other comments, Homan has already stated they’re going after the illegals who have committed crimes in addition to their illegal entry to this country. Sit back and enjoy the hard work of others since you haven’t done squat.

  2. Rand Paul apparently has not listened to Homan speak about the statements made describing the actual intended use for military forces. The proposed use of military was not to have the army march out onto our domestic streets and forcibly detain either citizens or illegal aliens as some in the leftist media have decried. Rather it would be to have army personnel take over tasks so as to relieve immigration enforcement personnel from having to work on paperwork and other non-field tasks related to the immense backlog of illegal alien cases so that the enforcement personnel can have time to actually go into the field to, you know, to their jobs of enforcing the law by arresting and deporting illegal aliens, including, for example, those that remain in the country in defiance of previously issued deportation orders or criminals illegal aliens that never should have been allowed to come in or stay but who escaped detection or were released into the country due to the Biden admin’s lax enforcement policies.

  3. I agree that it sends the wrong image at home, but I disagree that it sends the wrong image to the rest of the world.

If people think armed soldiers will round them up if they are here illegally, they are FAR less likely to come.

  4. We are being invaded by criminals from all over the world! This is not a legal matter this is a military matter. We The People want this war against us; by domestic enemies inside our government, using illegal foreign invaders as weapons, to stop. Congress, all of you, are trying to circumvent the will of the people. We won’t stand for it this time. We have made our appeal to heaven and the Lord has answered. HE will lead the charge. Stand down or get run over.

  5. Paul; they have ALL committed a crime by coming here ILLEGALLY; PERIOD…. Others has waited in line to go through the process and come here LEGALLY!!!! That is NOT fair…………………….

  6. I usually agree with you Paul. However, having served 25 years, I know millions and millions of retired vets would rally and help Tom Homan. When you swear an oath, part of the oath says, “I will defend this country against all enemies FOREIGN and DOMESTIC. Right now the FOREIGN enemies are invading our country. The DOMESTIC enemies are Demoncrats who try to protect them. God says in the end of days, “What is right will be wrong and what is wrong will be right.” Tell me one thing that is right about sanctuary cities!
