Texas went all-in on religious freedom legislation in May, championing a series of bills that could fundamentally shift the culture of the state.
Texas lawmakers are moving a series of significant religious freedom and pro-family bills through the House and Senate, sending them to the desk of Gov. Greg Abbott to sign into law, providing the state with the foundation to fundamentally shift Texan culture.
What Bills Are Moving Through?
SB 10. The Ten Commandments bill was introduced by state Sen. Phil King, and brings the religious text back to classroom walls and curriculum. “The Ten Commandments are part of our Texas and American story. They are ingrained into who we are as a people and as a nation. Today, our students cry out for the moral clarity, for the statement of right and wrong that they represent. If our students don’t know the Ten Commandments, they will never understand the foundation for much of American history and law,” Sen. King said when introducing the bill.
SB 11. SB 11 protects freedom of prayer in schools, allowing students who receive parental consent to “opt into a period of prayer and the reading of the Bible or other religious texts.”
SB 1049. Children who receive parental consent will also be allowed to attend religious courses, like Bible studies, during school hours off-campus.
HB 3284. This bill establishes the creation of a Commission to study and promote marriage and healthy families throughout the state of Texas. The Commission has until Nov. 2026 to present its findings.
Is Texas Ready For A Cultural Shift?
Texas follows states like Arkansas, where lawmakers are moving swiftly to protect religious freedoms while promoting the family values that create American stability.
Many states are considering religious freedom legislation thanks to a 2022 ruling by the U.S. Supreme Court that overturned a short-held precedent that aimed to separate church and state. This precedent was called the “Lemon test,” and was used to stop Christ from being included in most public spaces.
The federal-level shift is moving through states, bringing changes that could fundamentally shift cultural values as more and more children are exposed to faith through academia and other public spaces.
Great American Revival
Are you part of the Great American Revival? While many people think that this mass spiritual movement bringing God’s light to millions is purely social, there are many Christian leaders stepping up to bring His word to our political landscape. Do you know how your pastor feels about politics?
Your Sunday service doesn’t have to be political, but your day-to-day life outside of His four walls will always be dictated — in large part — by your elected officials. Ignorance of politics is like handing over control of your life to the greediest, most power-hungry serpent in the room. When we Use Our Voice, we bring a more Biblical worldview to our nation.
