Team Harris Adds “Issues” Page Day Before Debate, Mere Weeks Before Election

Harris Walz 2024 Official Campaign Website

Kamala Harris and Tim Walz have officially added a policy page to their 2024 campaign website – but only a day before the first Trump-Harris debate, and mere weeks before the election days.

At a Glance

  • Vice President Harris added policies to her campaign website for the first time since President Biden endorsed her 50 days ago.
  • The website divides Harris and Walz’s policy proposals into “Build an Opportunity Economy and Lower Costs for Families,” “Safeguard Our Fundamental Freedoms,” “Ensure Safety and Justice For All,” and “Keep America Safe, Secure, and Prosperous.”
  • Harris promises to cut taxes for middle-class families, ensuring no one earning less than $400,000 a year will pay more in taxes.
  • The plan includes restoring the Child Tax Credit and the Earned Income Tax Credit, and expanding the Child Tax Credit to provide a $6,000 credit for families with newborns.
  • The website also includes comparisons with the “Project 2025 Agenda,” associated with Trump.

Kamala Harris and her running mate, Tim Walz, have updated their campaign website to include a policy page; a timely addition nearly seven weeks after their entry into the 2024 presidential race. The update addresses previous criticisms that the Harris campaign focused too much on inspiration without presenting concrete policy plans. This detailed outline represents an effort to shift the narrative and emphasize their strategic priorities, even if it’s extremely last minute.

The website’s policy proposals are divided into four main sections: “Build an Opportunity Economy and Lower Costs for Families,” “Safeguard Our Fundamental Freedoms,” “Ensure Safety and Justice For All,” and “Keep America Safe, Secure, and Prosperous.” This reorganization aims to provide clarity about the campaign’s objectives and how they plan to achieve them.

One of the most noteworthy promises is a tax cut for middle-class families, with a guarantee that individuals earning less than $400,000 annually will not see an increase in their taxes.

That’s a promise Biden once made, too – and a promise some say wasn’t properly kept.

The policy page also details plans to make wealthy Americans and large corporations pay their fair share by rolling back Trump’s tax cuts, enacting a billionaire minimum tax, and quadrupling the tax on stock buybacks. The campaign intends to leverage these changes to build up the middle class and reduce the deficit. (Source)

Comparisons with Trump’s Project 2025

The Harris campaign site includes a section that notably attacks Trump’s “Project 2025 Agenda,” despite denials from Trump and his campaign regarding their affiliation with it. Harris argues that Trump’s plans would ban abortion and restrict IVF treatment, although Trump has stated otherwise. Trump, in fact, has even said that he believes the government and insurance companies should be made to pay for IVF treatments.

The policy page claims that Trump’s economic strategies would increase costs, trigger a recession, and only benefit the wealthiest Americans. Harris plans to restore the Child Tax Credit and expand it to provide a $6,000 credit for families with newborns.

On Israel, the page also states the following:

“Vice President Harris will always stand up for Israel’s right to defend itself and she will always ensure Israel has the ability to defend itself. She and President Biden are working to end the war in Gaza, such that Israel is secure, the hostages are released, the suffering in Gaza ends, and the Palestinian people can realize their right to dignity, security, freedom, and self-determination.”

The “Ensure Safety and Justice for All” section criticizes Trump, calling him a convicted criminal who only cares about himself. The section accuses Trump of caving to the gun lobby, hindering bipartisan border security deals, and planning to rule as a “dictator.” Harris also includes proposals for a 28% tax rate on long-term capital gains for those earning a million dollars a year or more and criticisms of Trump’s alleged self-serving actions.

Much of Team Harris’ claims are completely unsupported by evidence.
