The Washington Redskins Name and Logo May Return
In what would be a major rebuke of the Woke cancel culture, The Washington Commanders football team may be close to bringing back their original “Redskins” name and logo.
Team owner Josh Harris and NFL Commissioner Roger Goodell were on Captiol Hill Monday trying to make the name change happen.
According to an article from Newsweek, the two met with Congressional members including South Dakota Senator and new Senate Leader John Thune.
Previous owner Dan Snyder abandoned the Redskins name and logo in 2020, changing their name to the Washington Football Team.
In 2022, they settled on the name Washington Commanders.
Now it looks like they may return to the name that they had for their first 87 years of existence.
The family of John Two Guns White Calf, the Blackfeet Indian chief who was the inspiration for the Redskins logo, say they want his image back in the NFL.
NBA legend Magic Johnson, a member of the new ownership group with Harris, told NBC’s Today Show that he is open to the name changing back.
In related news, a Senate committee has approved a bill to lease the teams old home, RFK Stadium and the land around it back to the government of D.C.
The stadium is still standing but is set to be demolished to make room for a new stadium.
The Commanders currently play their home games at Northwest Stadium in Landover, Maryland.
