Trump Sues CBS for $10B over Edited Harris “60 Minutes” Interview

Former President Donald Trump filed a lawsuit against CBS News Thursday seeking $10 billion in damages over their “60 Minutes” interview with Kamala Harris which he claims was edited to present her in a positive light.

His lawsuit, filed in Texas, alleges the network engaged in “partisan and unlawful acts of election and voter interference through malicious, deceptive, and substantial news distortion.”

“To paper over Kamala’s ‘word salad’ weakness, CBS used its national platform on 60 Minutes to cross the line from the exercise of judgment in reporting to deceitful, deceptive manipulation of news.”

The lawsuit comes after Trumps attorneys sent letters to CBS demanding that they release the full transcript of the Harris interview.

They also asked CBS to preserve all documentation and communication related to the interview in expectation of the upcoming legal battle.

A CBS spokesperson released a statement late on Thursday rebuffing the lawsuit, claiming that Trump’s “repeated claims against 60 Minutes are false.”

“The Interview was not doctored; and 60 Minutes did not hide any part of the Vice President’s answer to the question at issue. 60 Minutes fairly presented the Interview to inform the viewing audience, and not to mislead it,” the CBS spokesperson said. “The lawsuit Trump has brought today against CBS is completely without merit and we will vigorously defend against it.”

While it is standard practice for news outlets to edit interviews for both time and clarity, Trump’s lawsuit claims that the 60 Minutes piece was done with malicious intent to deceive the public and to interfere with the 2024 election.
