Director of National Intelligence Tulsi Gabbard said former FBI director James Comey should be jailed after he posted a photo of shells reading “8647”—an apparent coded message ordering the removal of President Donald Trump by an means necessary.
The number “86” generally means to “get rid of” and is often used as shorthand for killing someone.
“47” refers to Trump, the forty-seventh president of the United States.
Speaking to Fox News, Gabbard said:
“Any other person with the position of influence that he has, people who take very seriously what a guy of his stature, his experience and what the propaganda media has built him up to be, I’m very concerned for the president’s life.
We’ve already seen assassination attempts. I’m very concerned for his life. And James Comey, in my view, should be held accountable and put behind bars for this.”
Watch:
Trump has survived two assassination attempts.
One occurred in Butler, Pennsylvania, when a bullet nearly hit his skull but instead grazed his ear as he turned at the last moment.
Months later, a would-be assassin was found hiding in bushes with a rifle at the president’s golf course in Palm Beach, Florida.
Secret Service agents intercepted the suspect before any harm was done.
Comey posted a photo to Instagram showing shells arranged to read “8647.”
The caption read: “Cool shell formation on my beach walk.”
After significant backlash, Comey deleted the post.
He later stated he “didn’t realize some folks associate those numbers with violence.”
Homeland Security Secretary Kristi Noem confirmed that DHS and the Secret Service are investigating the post.
FBI Director Kash Patel said the agency is aware of the situation and “will provide all necessary support.”
Meghan McCain, daughter of the late Republican Senator John McCain of Arizona, responded on X:
“Don’t know how this can be interpreted as any other way but a threat against President Trump. James Comey should at the very least get a visit from the secret service. Also is everyone mentally ill?”
Taylor Budowich, White House deputy chief of staff, described the post as “deeply concerning.”
He accused Comey of putting out “what can clearly be interpreted as a hit” on the sitting President of the United States.
Republican Tennessee Congressman Tim Burchett also responded, writing on X: “Arrest Comey.”
Tennessee Senator Marsha Blackburn said:
“James Comey is posting cryptic messages online alluding to getting rid of President Trump. Would he like to explain what he means by this given the assassination attempts on President Trump?”
However, the X account Republicans Against Trump defended Comey.
They wrote:
“The same people outraged over Comey’s weird post were totally fine with Trump sharing a video showing an image of Biden tied up in the back of a pickup truck. The hypocrisy couldn’t be more obvious.”
