Vice President JD Vance sharply criticized an independent journalist on Sunday after she publicly attacked one of his staff members, Buckley Carlson, who is the son of commentator Tucker Carlson, as reported by The Western Journal.
Sloan Rachmuth, a social media journalist and commentator, questioned Carlson’s character in a post published Saturday on X.
Rachmuth claimed that Tucker Carlson’s brother “idolizes” white nationalist Nick Fuentes and argued that this reflected on the entire family.
“Tucker Carlson’s brother idolizes Nick Fuentes,” she wrote. “Racism and antisemitism is a Carlson family trait.” She then targeted Vance’s aide directly.
“Is Tucker’s son Buckley, who serves as JD Vance’s top aide also a vile bigot? America deserves to know how deep the Carlson’s family ethnic and religious hatred runs,” she added.

In her X biography, Rachmuth identifies herself as an “Investigative Journalist | Zionist | Terrorism Survivor | Defending Judeo-Christian Values | Education, Policy & National Security.”
Her comments appeared to be in response to a Friday post from Tucker Carlson’s brother, Buckley Carlson, 57, who had shared a video from Nick Fuentes.
The video featured Fuentes criticizing President Donald Trump, and Carlson captioned his post, “Where within this clip is he wrong?”
“we didn’t vote for Trump because he was an obnoxious boomer. We voted for Trump because he was going to put America first.” 100%. Where within this clip is he wrong? https://t.co/XBhByDuzOz

Rachmuth’s post prompted an angry response from Vance. “Sloan Rachmuth is a ‘journalist’ who has decided to obsessively attack a staffer in his 20s because she doesn’t like the views of his father,” Vance wrote Sunday.
“Every time I see a public attack on Buckley it’s a complete lie. And yes, I notice ever person with an agenda who unfairly attacks a good guy who does a great job for me.”
ABC News reported earlier this year that Carlson has served in Vance’s press office since the beginning of the Trump administration.
Prior to that, “Buckley Carlson has worked as an aide on Capitol Hill since 2019, including most recently serving as deputy chief of staff to Republican Rep. Jim Banks,” the outlet wrote in January.
In a follow-up post, Vance referenced Rachmuth’s public claim to defend “Judeo-Christian Values” and questioned whether fabricating accusations met that standard. He then escalated his criticism.
“I have an extraordinary tolerance for disagreements and criticisms from the various people in our coalition,” Vance wrote.
“But I am a very loyal person, and I have zero tolerance for scumbags attacking my staff. And yes, everyone who I’ve seen attack Buckley with lies is a scumbag.”

Rep. Jim Banks of Indiana, Carlson’s former employer, also responded to the controversy. “Buckley worked for me for five years,” Banks wrote on X.
“He’s one of the smartest, most trustworthy and loyal staffers I’ve ever had. These personal attacks are disgusting and don’t serve your cause well.”
