Wokeism Failure” CNN Lays Off Hundreds of Employees, Here’s the Reason

Warner Bros-owned left-wing media outlet CNN is laying off hundreds of employees, likely as a direct consequence of its plummeting audience due to embracing unchecked wokeism.

Sources say CNN CEO Mark Thompson’s planned staff cuts will not affect big names “who are under contract,” thus it’s the “small guys” who must pay for management’s poor decisions, for which they had no say.

At least 210 employees, or 6% of the outlet’s staff, will be laid off as the left-wing mouthpiece strives to cut costs and streamline operations to remain afloat. Big names like Jake Tapper, who earns about $7 million, will likely not be affected, although they could save half a dozen jobs by slashing his salary in half.

According to anonymous sources who spoke to CNBC, New York City staff could be mostly affected as the outlet axes the most expensive shows and begins producing out of Atlanta.

Besides plummeting audience and skyrocketing costs, the outlet is at risk of a potential lawsuit after a jury reportedly found that the Leftist propaganda machine defamed a Navy veteran who could seek punitive damages.

U.S. Navy veteran Zachary Young is warranted to receive $4 million in lost earnings and $1 million in pain and suffering. He claims CNN defamed him by alleging he benefitted financially by helping people flee Afghanistan during the botched Joe Biden’s withdrawal, branding him an “illegal profiteer” and exploiter of “desperate Afghans.”

Nonetheless, CNN plans to invest “$70 million in new digital plans,” according to CNBC, which could result in fewer job losses this year.

Additionally, CNN’s “broader digital presence” rollout could create 100 new jobs, according to CNBC. The company also intends to invest in “new high-quality journalism and storytelling,” a dream that might not materialize unless it embraces true journalism. Though, given the immediate implosion of CNN+, this seems unlikely.

Thompson has hinted at potential “impartial reporting” during Trump’s second term. He reportedly told journalists to avoid “pre-judging” the president and “expressing any outrage of their own,” which was the bread and butter of the Leftist media.

However, with more people losing trust in mainstream media, it remains to be seen if CNN’s strategy could significantly alter its fate.

For some time, CNN has been on a downward spiral. In 2021, it was worth about $4.4 billion but dropped to about $2.3 billion in 2023. Its revenue also dropped from $2.2 billion in 2021 to $1.8 billion in 2023, while net income dropped from $600 million to $400 million during the same period.

CNN also announced massive layoffs just last November.

Meanwhile, other far-Left media outlets, such as NBC News, are also planning to lay off staff as more people continue to ditch legacy media. The Comcast-owned media, which will fire less than 50 employees, according to anonymous sources, also plans to spin off MSNBC and CNBC.

Jeff Bezos-owned the Washington Post also plans to lay off 4% of its workforce, while the Associated Press would slash its staff by a whopping 8%.
