A 16-year-old girl was killed early Saturday morning in Queens when an intoxicated driver struck her on a sidewalk following an altercation outside a neighborhood bar, police said, as reported by The New York Post.
The victim, identified as Jhoanny Gomez-Alvarez of Manhattan, was fatally struck just after 4 a.m. near Roosevelt Avenue and Benham Street in Elmhurst.
According to police, the incident began when a 38-year-old man, described as highly intoxicated, made lewd remarks toward the teen as she walked with her boyfriend, mother, and her mother’s friend.
Moments after the driver made lewd comments to the teen and got into a fight with her boyfriend and mother, police and sources said. Jhoanny Gomez-Alvarez of Manhattan was fatally struck by a 2009 Chevy Suburban driven by a 38-year-old man following the heated altercation.

Police sources said the suspect had been sitting on the steps outside a bar when the group exited. The man allegedly directed sexually charged comments at Gomez-Alvarez, which led to a confrontation involving her mother and boyfriend.
A scuffle broke out before the group separated from the suspect.
Shortly afterward, the man entered a 2009 Chevy Suburban and drove onto the sidewalk, hitting Gomez-Alvarez and pinning her against a pillar, according to law enforcement sources.

The vehicle also struck the victim’s 32-year-old mother before colliding with a parked car as the driver attempted to flee.
Emergency personnel declared Gomez-Alvarez dead at the scene. Her mother was transported to Elmhurst Hospital in stable condition, police confirmed.
The driver was taken into custody by responding officers. His name has not yet been released, but authorities said murder charges are pending.
The NYPD continues to investigate the circumstances surrounding the altercation and the crash.

I am torn between who I am more outraged with …the drunk who ran over a 16 year old or the mom who let her daughter dress like that and paraded her in and out of a nightclub at 4 am ….WTH
Absolutely. This is all kinds of wrong. That said, I’m far more upset with the murderer than the mom.

OK – this child’s death is tragic and the killer deserves life in prison (New York doesn’t have the death penalty), BUT….. What is a 16 year old doing out at 4am!?!?!? With her 32 year old mom!?!? Coming out of a nightclub!?!?!? Let’s see – Mom has her when she was 15 or 16 – great idea! Then decides the best way to raise her is to take her out clubbing. This girl had no future and is now dead because her imbecile Mom is stupid beyond belief. This country is doomed.
