Kentucky Father Vows Justice After 6 Year-Old Son’s Killer Walks Free Early

A Kentucky father is speaking out after the man who murdered his six-year-old son during a 2015 home invasion was released on parole this week.

On December 7, 2015, 38-year-old Ronald Exantus broke into the Versailles, Kentucky, home of the Tipton family.

Armed with a kitchen knife taken from the residence, Exantus stabbed several family members before fatally attacking six-year-old Logan Tipton as he slept.

Authorities said the assailant had no prior connection to the family and appeared to have chosen the house at random.

During the attack, Logan’s father, Dean Tipton, was stabbed while trying to intervene.

He was thrown across the room after confronting the intruder.

Exantus also stabbed Logan’s sister, Dakota, in the back and stomped on her head.

Dakota later gave chilling testimony about the assault.

“He stabbed me in the back. And then stomped on my head. And I remember waking up across the room, not where I was at, and I looked and he was killing Logan and Logan was screaming,” she recalled.

Exantus was arrested at the scene and charged in connection with the killing and assaults.

In 2018, a jury found him not guilty of murder by reason of insanity but convicted him on charges related to the attacks on Dean and Dakota Tipton.

He was sentenced to 20 years in prison for the assaults.

Despite the sentence, Exantus was released on October 1, 2025, after serving only about eight years.

According to state officials, he was credited for good behavior, education programs, and time served prior to sentencing. His parole supervision is scheduled to end in 2026, the Kentucky Department of Corrections confirmed.

The decision to grant early release has ignited anger from the Tipton family.

Dean Tipton said he believes his family remains in danger given Exantus’s past threats during the attack.

“He told [Dakota] that he was going to kill every one of us. So now I’ve gotta be on extra guard to protect my kids because I will not lose another one,” Dean said.

In comments reported by local media, Dean Tipton issued a stark warning regarding Exantus’s release.

“I’ve had my talks with God cause I’m not afraid to tell you all, I told the court — if I ever cross paths with him, I will kill the man. I will kill him where he stands.”

Logan’s mother, Heather Tipton, also voiced her frustration at what she called an unjust outcome.

“It’s infuriating that a six-year-old was killed sleeping in his bed and someone literally only did ten years in prison and he didn’t even do the time for that, he did time for assault charges,” she said.

The Kentucky Online Offender Lookup confirms Exantus’s release but does not disclose his current location.

The case, already marked by a controversial insanity ruling, is once again drawing scrutiny, this time over the parole decision that allowed a convicted attacker tied to the death of a child to walk free after serving less than half of his sentence.

For the Tipton family, the release has reopened wounds from the 2015 tragedy and raised fresh concerns about their safety.

  1. This is the recidivist type of individual that the courts or correction departments set loose on unway Americans. It is highly likely he will kill again. All he has learned is that you can brutally murder a child, in front of eyewitnesses and get away with it. They type of punishment with no deterrant effect is meaningless.

  2. Not only should this piece of human garbage be killed, but so should all of the jurors who chose to let him go free with an insanity plea. If he’s truly insane enough to murder a 6-year-old, then he should be institutionalized and medicated for the rest of his life, not sent to prison for 8 years and released.

    1. Absolutely! IF he is truly insane then there is no help for him, only danger to the rest of the world. Just like a rabid dog, put him down.

    2. From all I’ve read, I’m not certain the jury realized the judge and prosecution were steering them into the legal box where the whack-job’s sentence could be pretzeled into this mockery.

All I can say is, if the dude ends up not breathing, I won’t know anything about nothing.

  3. Far as I understand, murder is no longer a crime – just look at what our own government did to its population – deliberately murdered millions and not one person – or company – or institute was charged with first degree (as in premeditated) murder. Accept the fact that we’re merely collateral or commodities now. Every decent adult in America should own at least one gun cause the government sure as shoot’in not only doesn’t help but makes everything worse. Take care of yourself and yours, and do what you have to do as a TRUE human being.

  4. As a father I agree with the boy’s father. I would hunt him down. The state of Kentucky should have kept the monster in jail but instead they failed the family and the citizens of Kentucky. Shameful.

    1. Mr. Tipton, if you are reading this, or anyone who knows Tipton, please tell him. I will give you an alibi. Ronald Exantus should not still be breathing.

    2. Folks like you (and me) need to be on dad’s jury. I spent 20+ as a cop and nearly that much now as an attorney. The current crop of prosecutors are dullards and the result of “law” schools infested with “professors” badly afflicted with stage 4 Ivy League Dementia. Jury nullification is the route to justice. And, I fully support putting this rabid animal down.

  5. Absolutely justified in my opinion. The roach was let loose to kill again. Being mentally ILL is Not an excuse for cold blooded murder. He still has to pay the ultimate price. Let’s hope the dad gets his private justice for the killer destroying his family.

  6. If this sub human is too mentally ill to be punished for its crimes then, it should be in an asylum for the rest of its life not roaming free to kill again. I am so truly disgusted with the sorry state of our so called justice system is in and the low life judges and lawyers that have corrupted it.

How did prison fix the gorilla’s insanity? Maybe they can do the same for the rest of the Democrats?
