Sen. Chris Van Hollen Who Visited Alleged MS-13 Gangbanger Responds to Angel Mom’s Criticism but Deflects

Maryland Democrat Sen. Chris Van Hollen has responded to criticism over his alleged failure to stand with the angel mom of Rachel Morin who was raped, strangled, and killed by an El Salvadorian illegal immigrant.

Ironically, Sen. Van Hollen flew 1,658 miles to show solidarity with a foreign-born illegal immigrant, but barely supported one of his constituents who lost her child in a gruesome manner to a criminal from the same country.

In response to mounting criticism, Van Hollen made a cursory attempt to address the controversy by issuing a cookie-cutter statement about Morin’s death.

“What happened to the Morin family was awful and unacceptable. I cannot imagine losing a child like they lost Rachel, and I said at the time that my heart goes out to the Morin family,” Van Hollen told Fox News host Shannon Bream.

“I’m glad that the killer of Rachel Morin has been convicted in a court of law. That’s how we hold guilty people accountable – in a Court of Law. Courts of law are also where people get their due process rights respected,” he added.

Van Hollen conveniently overlooks the fact that a guilty verdict does not bring the victim back to life when murder has already occurred. By Van Hollen’s reasoning, we should allow terrorists to enter the country illegally and stay, as long as we can prosecute them after an attack. However, Trump aims to prevent similar crimes before they happen by removing criminals who entered the country illegally, thus saving lives.

Additionally, the Maryland Democrat maintains that Garcia is innocent and that the Trump administration admitted to having erroneously deported him. According to a DOJ ruling in 2019, Garcia should not have been deported to El Salvador, but to a safe third country.

“That is where the Trump administration admitted that they had wrongfully detained and deported Abrego Garcia. My whole point here is if you deprive one man of his constitutional rights, you threaten the constitutional rights of everybody. I would hope that all of us would understand that principle,” he asserted.

Meanwhile, the case gained attention when the court convicted Victor Martinez-Hernandez of Morin’s murder and rape on April 14, two days before Sen. Van Hollen flew to El Salvador to meet Garcia.

Two days after the ruling, Angel mom Patty Morin slammed the senator for giving little attention to the unjustified and unprovoked murder in his backyard, while making grand gestures to return the illegal alien.

“To have a senator from Maryland who didn’t even acknowledge, or barely acknowledged my daughter and the brutal death she endured, leaving her five children without a mother and now a grandbaby without a grandmother so he can use my taxpayer money to fly to El Salvador to bring back someone that’s not even an American citizen?” Patty said at the White House, the day Van Hollen visited Garcia. “Why does that person have more right than I do, or my daughter, or my grandchildren?”

Sen. Van Hollen has confirmed that the trip was paid for using hardworking taxpayers’ money.

In 2024, Sen. Van Hollen said his “heart breaks for the Morin family,” which “deserves more than words – they deserve action,” and voted for one of those symbolic and grandstanding pieces of legislation to secure the border, which Democrats seemingly used as an excuse to keep it wide open.

However, Trump delivered more than just words on border security without relying on any new legislation. In just 1 month, he accomplished what they failed to accomplish in four years, reducing illegal border crossings to a 25-year low, which now seems to be a problem with Democrats.
